January 12,1977 – Mach 3,2026
Dedrick Vondell Sims, 49, of Greenwood, VA, passed away on March 3, 2026, at the UVA Medical Center.
Born in Charlottesville, VA, to Mary (Becky) Howard and the late Lewis Jackson Brooks, Dedrick was known for his huge heart, infectious laugh, and playful personality. He had a great passion for collecting and was often affectionately compared to "Sanford and Son." He was the person friends and family called when they needed anything or needed something hauled away—whether it was a car towed or help tracking down treasures—he either had it or would find it. He also shared a love for flowers and collecting tennis shoes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Aimee; children Makaylah and Dedrick Jr. (Sonnybuck) and daughter-in-law Kaycee; sisters Ashley Bryant (Christopher), LeAndra Cubbage, Krystal Brooks Houston, and Kristie Brooks Paige (Moses); brothers Robert Sims and Steve Sims (Jennifer); many nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his two beloved fur grandbabies, Bowie and Dexter.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Planet Fitness in Charlottesville and the medical team at UVA Medical Center for their dedicated care and support.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 619 Newton Rd, Greenwood, VA. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a meal at the Sportsmen Club, 894 Miller School Rd, Crozet, VA.
