Eleanor was born on November 8, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Elbert Eugene Sr. and Florence Flesher. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1958. That summer Eleanor worked as a stenographer at Kelly Air Force Base before going to Southwest Texas State. While in college she was dating her future husband Norman “Nick” Charles Schwartz. Jr. who had also attended Jefferson High School.
A large part of her life, Eleanor traveled the world with Nick who was an Officer in the Air Force. Settling in Springfield, Virginia, Eleanor had a long career working at the Pentagon as a Writer/Editor for the Department of Defense, a job she loved. In 1987, Eleanor moved to Greene County where she operated a beautiful Bed and Breakfast called Edgewood Farm in a restored 1790’s house with her husband, the first in Greene County. While operating the Bed and Breakfast, Eleanor would take care of her grandchildren after school and in the summers where many fond memories were made. In 2001, she and her husband moved once again to Earlysville, Virginia. Eleanor quickly made friends as a member of Buck Mountain Episcopal Church. She regularly volunteered at the School House Thrift Shop and was also a member of the Garden Club.
Eleanor always made family a priority as it was most important to her. Her love, devotion and caring nature will never be forgotten as she helped many. Eleanor had many passions that included: travel, flowers and flower arranging, birds, pets, and taking pleasure in nature. She always looked forward to the Spring. Eleanor was also a wonderful cook and shared that joy with her family and friends.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Nick Schwartz of 61 years, the love of her life, and by her brother Elbert “Gene” Flesher of New Braunfels, Texas. Eleanor is survived by her two children: Cynthia Ann Schwartz Cary and her husband Robert, and Norman Charles Schwartz III. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Robert Michael Cary and his wife Samantha, Charles Scott Schwartz, Eleanor Meghan Cary Brown and her husband Thomas, and Kathrine Elizabeth Schwartz; and two great-grand-children, Cora Eleanor Brown, and baby Margaret Cary due in April. Eleanor also leaves a sister Annie Waldrop of New Braunfels, Texas, a niece and nephews as well as many other relatives.
