Frankie Lee Townsend, 81, of Earlysville passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 3, 2020. Born September 11, 1939 in Scottsville, he was the son of the late Floyd Otto and Lillie Mae (Layne) Townsend. He was also proceeded in death by siblings: Spencer, Carroll and Clarence Townsend, Margaret (Tiny) Breeden, Pauline Bishop, Betty Townsend and Rebecca (Peggy) Henderson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Ann Townsend; mother-in-law Vernia Shifflett; a son, Greg (Debbie) Townsend of Earlysville; three daughters Frances (Gary) Walker of Nortonsville, Lisa and Tracy Townsend of Earlysville. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Michael (LeAnn), David and Christy Walker, Adam (Anne) and Jessica Townsend, and Ricky (Sue) Collier; and four great grandchildren: Dakota (Emilee) and Mikey Ellis, Laci Walker and Abigail Walker. He was Pop to David Collier and Pop-Pop to Travis Collier. Frankie leaves numerous nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Frankie was a devoted Christian and attended Southside Church of God in Charlottesville. He drove a tractor trailer for Wilson Trucking for 17 years and Tiger Fuel Company for 19 years. He was a devoted husband, dad and granddaddy who took great care of his family and showed every day how much they were loved.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, a private graveside service will be held with a memorial service at a later date. Teague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Southside Church of God Building Fund at 1807 Avon Street Extd., Charlottesville, VA 22902 or Hospice of the Piedmont at 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
