Herman Randolph “Randy” Whitley, 87, entered into eternal life at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Born on February 23, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia, the only child of the late Randolph Whitley and Hazel Butcher. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Edna Drumheller-Whitley; his step-children, Melvin E. “Gene” Drumheller, Jr., and his wife Pam, Wendell W. Drumheller, and his wife Tina, both of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Elizabeth D. Wright, and her husband, Eric, of Austin, Texas; his step-grandchildren, Amanda D. “Mandie” Strecky, and her husband Stephen, Kyle E. Drumheller, and his wife April, Christopher A. “Drew” Drumheller, Zachary M. Drumheller, and Adam L. Wright; and his step great-grandchildren, Virginia L. Strecky and Colt E. Drumheller. Randy took pride in the family he gained when he married Edna and he loved us all as if we were his own. Randy served in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He actively served his country in the Korean War. Randy worked for James River Bus Lines for more than 15 years. Randy relocated to Charlottesville after marrying Edna. After he relocated, he returned to his love of driving a bus at Monticello. Randy loved the Lord with all his heart and spent many of his later years in service to his church. Each morning, Randy spent time reading his Bible and praying. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church, recently being recognized as Deacon Emeritus for his faithful service. Randy also served as a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed serving as Sunday School leader at Rosewood Village. Randy was a proud active member of The Gideons International for over 15 years. He served as a Chaplain and his mission was to bring as many people to the Lord as he could. Randy was a member of the Freemasons. He was a Master Mason achieving the level of 14th degree, York Rite. In his free time, Randy enjoyed reading the Richmond Times Dispatch and completing crossword puzzles. Active pallbearers will be Gene Drumheller, Wendell Drumheller, Kyle Drumheller, Drew Drumheller, Zach Drumheller, Stephen Strecky and Clifford Middlebrook, Jr. The family will receive friends from 10AM until the time of the service at 11AM at First Baptist Church Park Street. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
