

John was born July 11, 1946, in Boston Massachusetts, to the Late Charles J, and Edith Walenten, who preceded him in death.
John is survived by Nancy his loving wife of 41 years, his children Lisa Dath (David), Nikki, and Josh, a granddaughter Stefanie, a special niece Ann and her sons, Dave (Catherine, “Cat”), Brandon (Lindsay), and Xander, who have helped take care of him for the past 36 years, also several nieces and nephews, and his best friend Ray Clarke.
John got his BS in Chemical Engineering and worked in chemical plants for many years, he received his Master Degree in Business in 1985, then decided to leave the chemical field, then he started law school at Seaton Hall University, he received his JD in 1988, the same year he moved to Charlottesville, VA, where he eventually opened his own law practice, where he practiced until his death.
John loved hanging out with his family, especially his granddaughter Stefanie, she was his pride and joy, when she was small thy would go to the park every weekend and finish the day at Kohr Bros.
John loved sports especially the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics, he also loved working outside, planting flowers, vegetables, mowing , and blowing the leaves.
John had a heart of gold, he would do anything for anyone, basically would give you the shirt off his back, his kindness and humor will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life for John on Saturday February 14, 2026 at Hilton Gardens Inn 1793 Richmond Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Burial for John will be held privately.
