Joe was a faithful, much-loved son, husband, brother, neighbor and member of his community of faith, and ever will be.
Praise the Lord God Almighty.
Joe was born in Pittsburgh, PA. The family moved to New York, and he attended high school in Brooklyn. After high school he enrolled at the College of Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell, MA where he graduated in 1968 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Joe then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Engineering Administration from Bradley University in Peoria, IL.
With GE, Joe was a lead engineer, PLC Instructor and customer support engineer. He lived in Binghamton, NY and Bloomington, IL. He relocated to Albemarle County, VA to help open the new GE offices here.
Joe worked faithfully and diligently for General Electric Company/GE Fanuc Automation from 1968-2001. He was an instructor at Piedmont Virginia Community College, Charlottesville, VA from 2013-2014.
In May 2001, Joe and I (Carol) were married and have enjoyed the past 23 plus years together. So thankful for Joe’s 80 years. He will be greatly missed.
In July 1973, Joe married Elsie Sylvia. After declining health, Elsie went to her heavenly home in 1997. Joe is also predeceased by his parents, Mary Veronica and Joseph Thomas Fyrer.
Joe was heavily supportive of and involved in UVA Athletic Activities offices. He was Grand Marshall for graduation ceremonies and ushered games for a number of years. He enjoyed sports such as swimming, golf, tennis, sailing and skiing. He so enjoyed sunrises and sunsets on Topsail Isle and he enjoyed the comradery with his GE retirement buddies, always, so much.
Joe lived a life of commitment, purpose, conviction. faith and service, leaning on and by the arms of Jesus. He so loved and valued his family and his community of faith that were all central to his life.
An 11:00 a.m. Mass Graveside Service is scheduled for March 15 in Framingham, MA. Norton Funeral Home in Framingham is handling those arrangements.
A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 401 Alderman Road. Charlottesville, VA. at 11:00 a.m. on March 17. A luncheon will follow in the church social hall.
Family and friends would like to thank everyone so much for the outpouring of love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph Fyrer to the Emily Couric Cancer Center, Charlottesville, VA or St. Thomas Aquinas Church or Church of the Incarnation, Charlottesville, VA.
