

Joe was born May 13, 1941 in Hertford County, NC to the late James Lassie and Eulalia (Lilley) Weathersbee.
In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his brother David Lee; sister Phyllis Dean Mandzak; half siblings Virginia Abrams and James Weathersbee and his first wife Rose (Lassiter) Weathersbee.
Joe is survived by his wife Deborah (Schmid) Weathersbee; one brother, Glenn Dale Weathersbee and his wife Mary, and four children; Timothy Allen and his wife Susan, Barry Trent and his wife Sonya, Kimberly Beth Hellms and her husband Kevin, and Leslie Renee Augustino. His nine grandchildren; Carrie Ann Walker and her husband Sam, Jessyca Haden and her husband Orion, Shae Rose Weathersbee, Jared Brice Weathersbee, Joshua Blake Hellms, Autumn Rose Taylor and her husband Cameron, Rachel Anne Bentley, Joshua Blake Smith and Haley Hughes McDermott and wife Amanda. Five great-grandchildren; Tate Montgomery Walker, Ellie Grace Walker, Jackson Haden, Nolan Haden and Ripley Haden. Numerous nieces and nephews as well as many close friends and loved ones.
Joe entered the U.S. Army on January 14, 1959 and attended Basic training in Ft. Jackson, SC. He then attended the Army Armor School at Ft. Knox, KY and then served a tour of duty in Nurenberg, Germany. He was discharged at Ft. Eustis, VA on February 9, 1962.
Joe then worked numerous jobs until he was hired by the Virginia State Police in 1964. He proudly served for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He always had a passion for woodworking and after retiring he owned and operated Thornburg Woodworking for 10 years. He then had numerous jobs working for the Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging, driving a limousine and an applicant investigator for the Virginia State Police.
He also was very proud to be a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He had been a member of KENA and ACCA Temples, was Chairman of the Hospital Committee for ACCA Temple. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Motor Patrol and Mini Patrol.
If you asked him what his greatest accomplishment in life was, he would tell you his family. He was proud of each of them. He will be greatly missed.
A Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church, 4422 Antioch Rd, Scottsville, VA 24590 with Pastor Dave Vogt officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Shiners Hospitals.
