

Lily Bonita "Bonnie" Powell, age 64, lost her battle with heart disease on Monday, November 10, 2014, at the UVA Medical Center with her family by her side, Bonnie was born on March 17, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gibson W. "Tex" Hogue and Helen J. Morris Hogue. Bonnie leaves behind a devoted husband of 46 years, Robert L. "Bunny" Powell of Albemarle; a loving son Robert L. "Bob" Powell and his wife Margaret of Albemarle; three sisters, Ginger L. "Sissy" Wadkins of Charlottesville, Loney M. "Lulu" Houchens and her husband David C. "Clint" of Crozet, and Lorene "Jo" West and her husband William "Bill" of Lakeland, FL; two devoted nephews, Timothy D. "Bubba" Morris and his wife Wanda G. of Charlottesville and Christopher W. "Chris" Morris and his wife Tiffanny D. and their son Caden W. Morris of Harrisonburg, VA and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. Bonnie worked for Mahane’s Florist and University Florist before retiring from UVA Medical Center Call Center with 25 years of service. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Charlottesville and the Red Heart Club through the UVA Medical Center. She was known as the "Cat Lady" by her neighbors because she had house cats and all the stray cats knew where they could come for a good home. She was kind hearted, always giving and helping others and devoted to her family. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 at Monticello Memorial Gardens with Pastor Lindsay Ellis officiating. Bonnie’s family expresses their sincerest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at UVA Medical Center’s 4th floor units, Martha Jefferson Hospital, and Hospice House for all their support.
