Margaret was born on September 6, 1937, in Dover, NJ, to the late Everett and Angenetta Winkler Smith. She graduated from Netcong High School in 1955 and married Donald E Grogan in 1959. She and Don raised their 4 children in Manassas, Virginia having moved there in 1968.
She ignited a passion for the wonders of nature in her children and preferred to be outdoors rather than in. She could usually be found tending to one of her many flower beds or her strawberry garden or, later in life, walking around her block in Micco, Florida and visiting with her neighbors.
Margaret was a devoted member and Sunday School teacher at Lebanon Presbyterian Church where her memorial service will be held.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Grogan and brothers Ralph Smith and Cliff Smith.
Margaret is survived by her children, Eileen (Tom) Shuman, William (Andrea) Grogan, Donald (Tammie) Grogan, and Mary Lee (Joseph) Pampel. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeff (Carrie) Grogan, David (Ara) Grogan, Emily (Andrew) Bessell, Janice (Jeremy) Writt, Jill Grogan, Michelle (Chris) Koch, Jennifer Pampel and Kimberly Pampel. In addition, she is survived by her wonderful great grandchildren Mark Grogan, Ryan Koch, Hannah Bessell, Jaxson Writt, Everett Koch, Henry Bessell, Jordyn Writt, and Ayla Grogan.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 am, at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
