
Margaret Virginia McCary Olin died on March 25, 2019 in her home at the Colonnades, Charlottesville, VA. She was born on July 18, 1918 in Princeton, WV to the late Henry Clay and Mary Ardelia Johnston McCary. Margaret was also predeceased in death by her five brothers, James Aubra McCary, Henry Clay McCary (Bud), Jr., Roy Foster McCary, Clarence Monroe McCary, and Dr. Joe Edwin McCary.
Margaret attended Concord Business School and then moved to Williamsburg and worked for the Navy in a Civil Service position. She was transferred to Norfolk and worked for Commander Allen where she was in charge of the Officer’s Club. There she met her husband, Walter J. Olin, a First Lieutenant in the Navy. They were married on December 18, 1965. Walt died November 3, 2005 after 39 years of marriage.
They moved to Charlottesville in 1984 where Margaret worked at the University of Virginia typing dissertations for students in the law school. After retirement, she volunteered at the UVA Medical Center’s emergency room as a “Pink Lady” and assisted patients and families. She also volunteered many years at the Emergency Food Network in many capacities. She was a beloved member of Meadows Presbyterian Church and was an active member in many committees, and volunteered many hours of service in immeasurable ways.
Last July she celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family at the Colonnades. A memorial service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Meadows Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 5, 2019. After the 10:30 A.M. regular worship service, a time of fellowship will be held before the 1:00 P.M. memorial service. Internment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
