
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin L. Chambless, Jr. (Bud), who departed this life on August 30, 2025, at the age of 82 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and a longer battle with PTSD.
Bud was born on November 29, 1942, in Ragland, Alabama to Melvin L. Chambless, Sr. and Mrytle Inez Chambless, nee Langley.
Bud served in the Army National Guard in Heflin, Alabama before enlisting in the US Air Force after high school graduation. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. After discharge from the Air Force, he attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida graduating with a degree in accounting. Bud was committed to serving his community as treasurer of the Tallahassee Jaycees, a Shriner, and director in Pearisburg, VA. Downtown Revitalization Project, and District Director of the Pearisburg Lions Club.
Bud was a cherished spouse, parent, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine H. Chambless, nee Harper, of Charlottesville, VA; his daughter Michelle L. Chambless of Fountain Hills, AZ; his grandson, Bruce H. Ferguson of Lawrenceville, GA; two brothers James Robert Chambless and wife Judy and Ricky Lynn Chambless, and sister, Doris A. Chambless all of Alabama, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Bud was predeceased by his parents, his brother Ronald D. Chambless, and his precious granddaughter Margie Katherine Ferguson.
In accordance with his wishes, Bud will be cremated, and no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Lions Club or to Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). Mail checks drawn on a U.S. bank account, payable to LCIF, to Department 4547 Carol Stream, IL 60122-4547. 100% of donations go to grants and programs such as hearing aids, eyeglasses, and eye exams.
Though Bud is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the love he shared and the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
