Mimi Elliott Hirsch

Mimi Elliott Hirsch died peacefully on November 25, 2025 with her loving children by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents John Wesley Elliott, Sr. and Mildred Parker Elliott and her brother John Wesley Elliott, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Miriam Hirsch of Richmond, VA., Melissa Hirsch-Fielding and her husband Glenn of Charlottesville, VA and her son Jonathan Hirsch and his wife Wendy of Ashland, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonah, Ethan and Abigail Fielding of Charlottesville, VA., Eve Lillian Bennett and her husband Noah of Richmond, VA., Spencer Moran of Newport, RI and Elaine and Jacob Hirsch of Ashland, VA.

She grew up in Shelby NC, graduated from Shelby High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Duke University. She later received her Master of Education from the University of Virginia. She taught in Richmond Public Schools and later was a long-term substitute in Albemarle County Schools. She balanced a very enjoyable horse and pony farm with years of volunteer work in a variety of local education and civic organizations including serving as Regent of the Shadwell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. If you were to ask Mimi what her greatest achievement was, she would say that her family was her “magnum opus.”

She was the foundation of her family and will be remembered for her strength and guidance. She was “fierce, wise, warm, elegant and truly embodied the best of who we aspire to be.” She leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, a thirst for knowledge, and thoughtful conversation and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

A Celebration of Mimi’s Life will be held January 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Ida Reserve in Charlottesville, VA. A private memorial service will be held at her family’s plot in historic Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC.
