Nancy Lee FitzSimons passed away in her sleep on January 23, 2019 of natural causes. She was born Nancy Anne Lee on June 6, 1946 in Rochester, NY, one of two children of Coleman and Nancy Lee. Nancy was predeceased by her parents and brother.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 14 years, Dwight FitzSimons; three cherished children: Amanda (Mandy) Gardner; Robert Irons III; and Caroline Buetow; and four grandchildren she adored: Margaret (Maggie) Gardner, and Charlotte, Benjamin, and Cora Buetow.
Nancy was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and of the University of Virginia, and she was dedicated to her profession (Medical Technology) as well as to her cats, painting, history, and, especially, her family. Nancy will be remembered most of all for her kindness, both to people and to animals. The love of her (cat) life was Boy, whom she tamed from feral to lap cat.
Nancy was an avid reader, especially on history and especially WWII. Her favorite book was “No Ordinary Time.” For those whom she loved and who loved her, our time with her was no ordinary time. For her loved ones there won’t be another Nancy Lee FitzSimons. For her, please take time to look closely at all the things around you. Find the beauty in their details, find the beauty and the humor in what others may overlook and marvel at it all. Her ability to do this and to teach this has been such a gift.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home on Ivy Road, Charlottesville, with a reception immediately following. A private burial will occur later at Mt. Olive Church of the Brethren in Pineville.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA (https://caspca.org/give/in-honor-ofmemorial-gifts/).
