
Phyllis Mary D'Angio of Crozet passed away peacefully October 18 at UVA Medical Center. She was born Oct. 17, 1943 in Fall River, Massachusetts and lived in Mineola, N.Y. She received a B. S. degree in Elementary Education from St. John's University and a M.S. in Education from Stony Brook University.
At St. John's she met and married Robert D'Angio, a union that lasted for 48 years. They had three children, Jennifer D'Angio, Jessica D'Angio Peter D'Angio and seven grandchildren. She is survived by a sister Barbara Kelly of Crozet.
While their children were growing up, she taught at United Methodist Nursery School in Lake Ronkonkoma and then for 20 years at Longwood Middle School on Long Island. When she retired she came to Charlottesville to be with her husband who had been transferred there.
Those who knew this pretty, dynamic woman knew her to be a grandmother, mother, wife, teacher, golfer and friend. This no-nonsense lady dedicated herself to any task she took on. She was a driving force in with her hospitality committee's events including winery trips and parties. She was a member of her community's board of directors where she could be depended onto give wise advice.
Phyllis battled cancer for many years and although it took her in the end she was greatly admired for the tough battler she was.
A golfer, she played on Long Island at Island's End Golf Course, and became a member at Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet.
