Phyllis "Phibby" Janet Stanley Shifflett

Phyllis Janet Stanley Shifflett, 91, of Charlottesville, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018. Phyllis was born on April 18, 1927, in Elkton, VA, to the late Talley and Blanche Stanley. She retired as a short order cook from Martha Jefferson Hospital. Phyllis loved church on Sunday mornings, as well as her daily chats with her special friends, Emma Denton, Marie Eppard, Joyce Williams, and Betty Birckhead. She was famous for her sausage gravy, strawberry tarts, and ham biscuits. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, James Hardie Shifflett Jr.; sisters, Janice Stanley and Maxine Stanley; brother, Ronald Stanley (Juanita); and her dear niece, Sheila Merica. Phyllis is survived by her brother, Harold Buddy Stanley (Lois); children, Alma Harlow (Gary), and Beverly Thomas (Joe); honorary son, Lewis Mac MacDonald; honorary daughter, Louise Dyer; 11 grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at 12 p.m., at Teague Funeral Service in Charlottesville. The family will receive friends on hour prior. A graveside service will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont, the Cedar's Unit Three, and her guardian angels: Cathy Burke, Sydne White, Stephanie Estes, Phillip and Phyllis Templeton, Violet Price, LaVerne Taylor, Janet Clark, and Jane Courtney.
