Bob was born on August 4, 1928 in Washington, D.C. to the late Walt Whitman Long and Elizabeth Brandon Long. He served in the Navy before his career in law enforcement began with the Metropolitan Police Department. He retired as a Detective Sergeant specializing in the recovery of stolen automobiles. During his service with the Metropolitan Police Department he met Officer Joyce Hutchinson who later became his wife. Bob was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police’s Washington D.C. chapter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Joyce Long; his daughter, Cindy Long; a sister, Mildred Lanham of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Teague Funeral Home with Mr. Lindsay Ellis officiating.
