Robert James Taylor Sr.

Robert James Taylor (Bob), age 65, longtime resident of Oakwood, Ohio passed away September 9, 2020 at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Bob was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 2, 1955 to the late James M. (Jim) and Marilyn (Frey) Taylor. Growing up in Oakwood, Bob was an avid car enthusiast and while in high school worked at his grandfather Robert W Frey’s food service business. Bob graduated from Oakwood High School in 1973 and attended the University of Dayton. He married Edythe (Edie) Curran Taylor on April 28, 1979 and continued to reside in Oakwood with son Robert J. Taylor, Jr. (Robby) and daughter Alina (Ali) Elizabeth Taylor. Bob worked as a Regional Manager for a design and architectural materials company, but his passion was being a husband and father. He coached, volunteered, and actively supported Robby and Ali in every sport and activity (soccer, baseball, field hockey, band, scouts, etc.). He was a long-term trustee of South Park Methodist Church, Quartermaster for Boy Scout Troop 320, volunteer at local Dayton events, and involved in a variety of school-related activities. Bob was also an avid craftsman and enjoyed home improvement projects, tennis, and helping others. He always put others’ needs, particularly his family’s, first. Bob is survived by his wife Edie, son Robby (Julia) of Charlottesville, Virginia, daughter Alina (Ben Lynch) of Kettering, Ohio, grandchildren Ryleigh and Brogan Taylor and James and Jackson Lynch, sister Cathy (Ed) Breen of Kettering, Ohio, brother David (Marilyn Mix) of Columbia, Maryland, and other relatives and numerous friends. A memorial gathering for extended family and friends will take place at a later time in Dayton, Ohio.
