Steve was a graduate of Western Albemarle High School and attended Piedmont Community College, majoring in Electronic Technology and Engineering. His very first job at the age of 14 was working for Mr. Lynwood Sandy Sr. repairing lawn mowers. Steve's passion of automobile and motorcycle engines started his career as a mechanic, parts salesman and manager, and finally, a distributor. Steve loved to work on cars, fishing, and attending antique shows. He loved music, particularly rock and roll, and was known to DJ in his spare time for fun. He enjoyed vacation at the Outer Banks. He spent his last vacation there as a gift from loving and supportive friends of Jim Price Automotive, watching the waves and listening to the seashore sounds. Steve valued time with his family and friends, sitting quietly, watching movies or talking about old times, squeezing his wisdom and concern for his loved ones into those quiet conversations. Things that were important to Steve were honesty, finish what you start, do it right the first time and be smart about it. He spent the last four years always hopeful for a miracle yet filled with grace and courage. The family acknowledge with profound gratitude his nurse Becky Swartz, for her devotion to Steve, her commitment to his wish to stay at home, and the support of his family. They thank Dr. Geoffrey Weiss, Josie Landress, Dr. Julio Silvestre and the staff of the UVA Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, Continuum Home Health, UVA Palliative Care and Parkway Pharmacy. There are no words to express the depth of gratitude for his very close uncle Robert, his friends Alan, Scott, Delia and Brook.
