Sylvia Hensley Cunningham

Sylvia was born on February 1, 1947, in Fireco, WV, to the loving parents of the late Rowena Ferrell and Eugene Taylor Hensley. Sylvia had fond memories of growing up in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. She graduated from Concord College and then continued her education receiving a Masters in Education from Virginia Tech. Teaching Home Economics was definitely her passion and brought her much joy. She and her husband, Dave, built a home here in Charlottesville and shared running their family photography business. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, and cooking for her family and friends. Sylvia was a beautiful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, teacher, friend and endlessly caring and loving to so many.

Sylvia was preceded in death by parents and her brother, Donald E. Hensley.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Cunningham; daughters, Dr. Virginia Lyn Cunningham and husband, Edward Sidebottom; Elizabeth Cunningham Bailey and husband, Robert Bailey; Grandchildren, Lottie, Luke, and Bo. Her sister-in-laws Julie Hensley, Sue Ella Meadows, and Carolyn Leckie and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, from 5-7pm, at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 27, at 2:30pm, at Teague Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with burial expenses.
