Ron was born on September 6, 1961 in Kampala, Uganda, where he lived with his parents and sisters. By the age of 11, Ron and his family fled Uganda due to the political upheaval of the Idi Amin regime. Ron was raised in Charlottesville, Virginia by his late sister, Monica and her husband Peter Lobo. He grew up alongside Monica’s children, his nephews and nieces; Toinette Lobo Reynolds, Ingrid Elizabeth Lobo and Leonard Jason Lobo. As a young man, he attended Saint Anne’s-Belfield School and Albemarle High School (Class of 1979). Ron developed a natural skill for entrepreneurship, became an avid fisher, loved photography and proclaimed himself a true car guru. Ron can be remembered for his love of all cuisines and was known as a connoisseur of Charlottesville’s best restaurants. Ron loved learning new things and always aspired for greatness. He was truly funny, loved the beach, and got a thrill from driving the winding, scenic Virginia byways. He was an adventurous soul and he surprised himself with his own green thumb.
Ron’s daughter from his marriage (1986-2013) to Irene D’Gama, Ashley, brought him much joy. With his family he enjoyed traveling, especially to national parks, camping, hiking, biking, and fishing. Especially memorable are family trips to India, the Bahamas, Mexico, Dominican Republic and a home away from home found in the Outer Banks, NC.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Maria Maximiana Piadada Castelino and Vincent Francis Castelino of Goa, India; and his sisters Monica Castelino (Lobo) of Charlottesville, Va and Linda Castelino of Toronto, Canada. He is survived by his loving daughter, Ashley Castelino of Charlottesville, VA.
