Veronica Ann Holland passed on September 17, 2020, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA, with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Carberry Holland, her father, Henry Edward Holland, and siblings, James “Jim” Holland, and, Julia Holland. She is survived by her brother, Patrick Holland (Alice) of Springfield, VA, six nieces and nephews, Ashlyn Holland, McLean, VA, Shannon Holland, Charlottesville, VA, Patrick Holland, Jr. (Laura), Round Hill, VA, Shelley Sines (Chad), Mechanicsburg, PA, Jim Holland (Nicole), Richmond, VA, and Marie Moss (Ryan), Culpeper, VA, as well as eleven great-nieces and great-nephews, Khegan, Patrick, Alyssa, Christian, Jeremiah, Isaac, Jacob, Grace, Hunter, Lee, and Holland. Extended family members include Betty and Skip Fitzgerald, and, Mark McLane. Veronica was born and raised in Washington D.C. and attended Holy Trinity Grade School, Georgetown Visitation High School and Dunbarton College. She graduated from Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia, in 1969. After college, she served as staff on the United States Senate Public Works Committee. She then worked at the General Services Administration for over twenty years in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA. After retiring, she became a certified massage therapist in the state of Washington and focused on travelling the globe. In the last twenty years, Veronica passionately served and lived as a missionary in Vietnam, Bolivia, and Tanzania through the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Veronica was committed to her Catholic faith and active in many parishes including St. Nicholas Catholic Parish, Gig Harbor, WA, and most recently the Church of the Incarnation, Charlottesville, VA. Throughout her life she was an avid woodworker, scuba diver, family genealogist, reader, baker of pies, recipe experimenter, sailor, and world traveler. In the past year, Veronica was learning pottery and enology at Piedmont Virginia Community College and participating in courses at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UVA, as well as, attending chair yoga and water exercise classes at ACAC. Her life will be celebrated privately by her family in a virtual ceremony on her date of birth, September 29. Per her wishes, Veronica will be named in the Prayer for the Faithful during Daily Mass, 12:15 pm, on October 2, 2020, at the Church of the Incarnation, Charlottesville, VA. The mass is live streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
