Violette Hartwell

Born in Charlottesville on March 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James William and Effie Beddow Cox, and was the wife of the late George W. Hartwell. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Marshall M. Cox and his wife Lucella, Michie Cox and his wife Laverne, and James W. "Nat" Cox and his wife Claudia.

Mrs. Hartwell was a member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church and retired from the University of Virginia Department of Radiology after 33 years of service. She also was associated with Trinity Mission as a receptionist for four years.

She is survived by her son, Timothy William Hartwell and his wife Amy of Palmyra; granddaughters Brittany L. Hartwell and Heather R. Hartwell; step-granddaughters Brandi Manning and Trisha Thompson; nephew Michael W. Cox and his wife Ellen of Virginia Beach; nieces Diane Cox Baird and her husband John of Australia, and Donna Cox Tomlin and her husband Jerry of Free Union; great-nephews David Baird, Garth Baird, Kevin Tomlin, and Keith Tomlin; and other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 2pm, at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, from 6-8pm, at Teague Funeral Service in Charlottesville.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont.
