William L. Gibson, Sr., passed peacefully away Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was born May 20, 1935, to the late Benjamin and Louise Gibson. He spent his entire life in Albemarle County working on Cherry Hill Farm, where he shared his days with his wife and love of his life of 58 years, Catherine. His compassion for the farm and living simply was evident in everything he did, carrying himself with integrity and humble thankfulness.
He loved baseball, especially the Yankees, and would carry on conversation with anyone that shared his liking. He enjoyed NASCAR, noting that Bill Elliott was the best driver to ever come through the circuit. He would watch Monday night wrestling on Tuesday and talk about it until Saturday, never knowing why those sea cooks turned their backs before the match was over.
He could tell you anything and everything about tractors, gardening, farming, and family. He was a devoted member of Lake Road Church of God and had a deep relationship with his Savior. He spent his life serving others and the Lord, taking each day as a blessing and opportunity to do his best and be, although unrealized, an inspiration to anyone who knew him. He left to us a life and legacy that will be remembered by all.
William is preceded in death by his parents, wife Catherine, son William Jr., two sisters Mary and Margaret, brother Buck.
He also leaves behind one sister, Lois, and her husband, Tommy Sandridge; a brother, Benjamin Gibson, Jr.; his only granddaughter, Natalie; and his only great-granddaughter, Georgia. He will be loved, missed, and forever in our hearts.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
