

She was born on November 30, 1959, in Olney, Illinois. Deb was known for her love of children and animals. She graduated from Sesser High, Illinois State University [Bachelor’s Degree, Summa Cum Laude in Special Education] and Western Illinois University [Master’s in Reading] and went on to a career in Special Education at Sangamon Area Special Education District and Rochester Community Unit School District #3A, [GU1.1], where she was very respected for her ability to ensure that any child, regardless of their learning disability, had the opportunity to receive a quality education. She retired from teaching in 2016.
On May 15, 1982, she married Joe Woodward in Galesburg, Illinois. Deb was a woman of many passions. She loved animals of all kinds, especially the ones with health issues, and volunteered in several capacities at the Animal Protective League for many years. She was most at home when gardening in the yard. Her green thumb created a vibrant garden filled with a variety of flowers for all to enjoy. Each month she would decorate her yard and house pertaining to the season’s theme. Her legacy of kindness to children and animals will live on through the many lives she touched through her professional and volunteer service.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe; her sons, Andrew Woodward [Springfield, Illinois] and his wife Sarah, and Christopher Woodward [Seattle, Washington] and his wife Elaine; and her brother, Mark Stubbins [Woodlawn, Illinois]. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family will host a celebration of Deb’s life on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Prairie View Reception Center, 8865 State Rte. 4, Chatham, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Protective League in her memory.
