Michael Bethard

He was born in Springfield on October 22, 1958, the son of Donald Bethard and Beverly (Anderson) Carder.

Mike retired after working for 17 years with Woodside Township. He also enjoyed helping others with construction projects for family, friends, and anyone that asked for help.

In his spare time, he enjoyed various outdoor activities including fishing, camping, dirt biking, and riding motorcycles. Mike also loved watching NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Patsy Bethard; and stepfather, Bob Carder.

Mike is survived by his parents; sons, Sam and David Bethard of Springfield, and Eli Johnson of Chicago; daughter, Krista Bethard of Springfield; grandchildren, Jacob and Braxton Bethard of Springfield and Teriah Bethard of Quincy; siblings, Teri (Bruce) Selway of Jacksonville and Jerry Bethard of Chatham; great-grandchildren, Z’evereyn Bethard and Z’canis Bethard; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and partner, Monique Johnson of Springfield.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, at West Side Christian Church, 2850 Cider Mill Ln., Springfield, with Matt Cleveland officiating.
