

Veteran of the Korean War
Chatham- David S. Howe, Sr. of North Chatham passed away on May 15, 2011 after a long illness.
As a boy, David served as a choir boy at his church and then served as an altar boy and crucifer. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He served five years in the Naval Reserves, with two years of active duty during the Korean War. He worked for J.C. Penny for nine years, and upon moving to Chatham he started with Nickerson Lumber Co. and worked in various capacities for 33 years.
David is perhaps best known for the many parts he played in the community theatre with The Highlanders, and at the Academy Playhouse, His favorite role was Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof” for which he won the Association for Community Theatre Excellence Award for best actor in a musical on Cape Cod. David was also an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans, where he served for many years on the Overnights of Hospitality Program.
David leaves his wife of 60 years, Joan Simonson Howe and their children, Carol Connerers of Lolita, CA, William Howe of Chatham, and David Howe, Jr. of Eastham. He also leaves four grandchildren, Andrea Boomer, Melissa Boomer, Kayla Howe, and Joshua Howe.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on May 28, 2011. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church’s outreach programs for the homeless on Cape Cod, 204 Monument Rd., Orleans, MA 02653.
