Dorothea Maloney-Binney age 86 passed on August 28th at Epoch in Brewster after a brief illness. Dorothea was born in Berlin NH March 1st 1926. She was the daughter of Arthur and Lillian LaPlante of Berlin NH and had two siblings Ortin and Raymond LaPlante.

Dorothea graduated from Berlin High School and subsequently attended Mary Hitchcock Nursing School in Hanover NH. It was here she met her first husband F. William Maloney. They lived in Needham, Westwood and Dover MA for many years. After his death in 1991, she later married Robert Binney whom she also outlived. Dorothea and Robert lived in Chatham MA part of the year and wintered in Chrystal River, FL.

Dorothea is survived by two sons John W. Maloney of Fort Collins CO, and David Michael Maloney of Hyannis, MA; two grandchildren Craig and Kirk Maloney of CO; her three step-children, Karen Holleran of Washington State, Bruce Binney of Gardner, MA and Lisa Binney of ME. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Deborah and Rosemary McGrath of FL, Ellen Carofolo of Weymouth MA, Christopher and James McGrath of GA, and Laura Morris of TX.

After pursuing a career in nursing Dorothea attended Babson College and became a Nursing home administrator. Most recently she was administrator of Brewster Manor, retiring in 1996. She was active in the Chatham Woman’s Club and the Red Hat Society. Dorothea was a member of St. Christopher’s Church in Chatham.

Visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham, MA on Monday September 3 from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday September 4 at 10 AM at St. Christopher’s Church in Chatham. Interment with Col. F. William Maloney will follow at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 12:30 PM.
