
CHATHAM – Carol Devir, 73, passed away on July 9th, 2015 at Broad Reach Hospice and Pallitative Care. She was born in Raleigh, NC and attended Meredith College where she received an undergraduate degree. Continuing her education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she received a master’s degree in library science.
Carol moved to Boston in 1965 and worked at Harvard University for about 3 years as a catalog librarian. Carol then went on to work in the Boston Public Library system from 1968-1981. She decided to take 11 years off and move to Chatham in 1981. Carol then went back to work for the Yarmouth Public Library system from 1992-2008. She then retired in 2008 as the Assistant Library Director. Walking was her favorite exercise—especially the streets of downtown Chatham. She had a great love of books and animals, with a special fondness for cats.
She is survived by her husband Howard A. “Pete” Briggs of Chatham, MA; a brother, Dr. James Coxe III and his wife Robin of Raleigh, NC. Also 2 nieces, Deborah and Kelsey, and 1 nephew, James IV.
