

Helen was born on October 15, 1926 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Edward and Delia (Hayes) Barlow. She attended Waterbury schools and graduated from Crosby High School. After graduation, Helen attended New Britain Teacher’s College in Connecticut where she received her teaching degree.
Helen taught elementary school in Torrington, Connecticut for thirty years. She had a love of sports and often assisted her husband, “Charlie” at numerous sporting events. After moving to Massachusetts, she became an avid Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan.
Helen and Charlie retired to Chatham, Massachusetts where she continued her love of teaching by substituting in the Chatham schools for thirty consecutive years. Her dedication to the profession was recognized by her colleagues who made her an honorary member of the Chatham Teachers’ Association. She also had been a member of the Holy Redeemer Guild and one of the early members of the Chatham Angel Fund.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Barlow of Middlebury, CT., a nephew, John H. Barlow, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Middlebury, CT., a niece, Joan Moran and her husband, Thomas, of Middlebury, CT., and several great- nieces and great- nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Edward W. Barlow and John H. Barlow, Sr. and her nieces, Linda Barlow and Mary Jane Barlow and a nephew, Ned Barlow.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Avenue, Chatham, MA.
