

John Edward Miklus of Chatham, MA and Naples, FL passed away peacefully on June 6, 2014. He was born in Cleveland, OH on May 6, 1930 to the late John and Veronica (Kascak) Miklus. He graduated from Benedictine High School and after serving two years in the U.S. Army, he returned to school and graduated from Cleveland State University. He met his wife, Mardy, in Cleveland and together they started their family. He worked for Carling Brewing Company as Director of Purchasing, then he and his family moved to Simsbury, CT where he joined Heublein Inc. in Hartford. He retired from Heublein after 29 years as Vice President of Purchasing.
In Simsbury, John was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Hopmeadow Country Club, Hop Brook Tennis Club, and the Simsbury Rotary Club. After spending many summer vacations on Cape Cod, he and his wife retired to Chatham in 1997.
John was an avid sportsman and keen competitor who loved to play tennis, paddle tennis and ski. Prior to his stroke, he enjoyed many hobbies including gardening; boating, fishing and clamming; wood-working, and cooking. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He leaves his devoted wife of 54 years, Margery (Sanger) and their children: John (Kathleen) Miklus, Linda (Tim) O’Brien, Stephen (Wendy) Miklus, Beth (Shaheen) Ali, and James (Andrea) Miklus, and his 14 cherished grandchildren Sarah, Kevin, Katie, Matthew, Evie, Tim, Annie, Noah, Claire, Carey, Sam, Alex, Ian and Emily. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward, and sister, Irene Kazel, and is survived by his sister, Frances Vargo and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. June 10 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wed, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave., Chatham. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy or the National Stroke Association. The family wishes to thank the staff at Liberty Commons for their compassionate care.
