Kenneth Joseph Auterio

Kenneth Joseph “Ken” Auterio passed June 9 at the age of 80 with his family by his side. Born in Cambridge to Vito, now deceased, and Louise Auterio, he was a longtime Medford resident until moving to Cape Cod in 2002.

A 1960 graduate of Medford Vocational High School, Ken worked for 27 years at the MBTA Everett Garage as a bus mechanic advancing to the Quality Assurance department as a supervisor. Semi-retirement then took him to the Cape where he worked part-time as a baker for Stop & Shop.

Ken was all heart with a big personality that was truly irresistible. As honest as the day is long, he was rarely at a loss for words and was exceptional at making people laugh. He loved to clown around and had a great sense of humor with friends and strangers alike. Loved ones will surely be comforted by memories of his easily offered words of encouragement, his desire to tell a funny story, turn a silly phrase, and to simply make us smile.

He is survived by his loving wife and loyal partner of 60 years Maureen Collins Auterio, his two adoring daughters, Noreen Auterio Scoggins and husband Warren of Lynn, and Christine Auterio, and his devoted Mother Louise Bocca Auterio of Medford, his older brother Victor Auterio and wife Kimiyo of Illinois, his loving sisters Janet Marchese of Medford, and Nancy McCarthy Santapaola and husband Joe of Groveland. He is also survived by several dear cousins and will be fondly remembered as beloved “Uncle Kenny” by his many adoring nieces and nephews.

Ken is also survived by many faithful friends, too numerous to mention, some lifelong, and all deeply special to him. The family is eternally grateful to all of you for the love, laughter, and support you’ve shown and shared with Ken throughout his life.

At the decedent’s request, there will be no formal services. There will be a Celebration of Life to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of sympathy gifts, donations can be made in Ken’s memory to The Greater Boston Food Bank at http://www.gbfb.org/
