

Margaret was the youngest of four children born to Mary and Norman Cox and was their only daughter. She was born in Boston, MA in 1937 and grew up in Jamaica Plain. She attended Jamaica Plain High School and later attended radiology technician school and worked at Mass General Hospital in Boston. In 1956, she became one of the first stewardesses for American Airlines based out of Logan Airport and later became a supervisor to the Boston based stewardesses. She had known her husband Joseph most of her life; they courted for several years and wed on June 25, 1966. Joe predeceased Margaret in March of 2007.
Margaret and Joseph built a house on Old Field Bend in North Chatham in 1970 when they were expecting their first son, Francesco Mirisola. Two years later their son Peter was born. After residing in Chatham for 30 years, they built a new home in Harwich in 2000. Margaret lived there for 12 years.
She is survived by her two sons Brewster police officer Francesco Mirisola of Harwich and Peter Mirisola, CDR USN, currently serving as Commanding Officer USS UNDERWOOD (FFG-36) and his wife, Suzanne of Jacksonville, FL. Margaret is also survived by her brother John Paul Cox and his wife Marion of South Yarmouth and her sister-in-law Mary Cox of South Boston. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Joseph Cox and his wife Renata of Port Jervis, NY and William Cox of South Boston. Margaret and Joe were very proud of the accomplishments of their sons and doted on their grandchildren, Serena, Nicholas and Lucas Mirisola. She was a very special wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and mother-in-law. Her smile, laughter, tender heart and quick wit will be missed by all.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday September 5th at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd., in Chatham. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, on Thursday, September 6th at 10am and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow. Margaret will be buried next to her husband of 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod Hospice, 434 Route 134 Suite G-1 South Dennis MA or any veterans’ charity.
