Bill Koerner, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2022. He was proud to have been born in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Summit, NJ, and then went on to Nichols Jr. College, the U.S. Navy and Syracuse University. He met his beloved wife Nancy in Chatham MA when she was a summer waitress at the former Hawes House. (Bill’s family enjoyed vacationing in Chatham as far back as 1907!) Soon after being married, Bill and Nancy, with the help of family and friends built a cottage in Chatham that has become a favorite gathering spot for all. They went on to build a year-round house in Carlisle, MA where they lived for 50 years, raising two sons Eric and Scott. Bill worked at Microwave Associates and served part-time as Carlisle’s Tax Collector for many years. He also was the Distribution Manager for the Carlisle Mosquito, a small and wonderful local newspaper. 11 years ago, the couple moved to Chatham year-round, returning to the place where their romance began.
Bill loved trains and enjoyed train trips and train models. His love of trains earned him a position on the Chatham Railroad Museum Committee, and he enjoyed his model train layout at home. Known to his family as Pop-pop or Boo, Bill was a kind, gentle and loving soul who embraced life, cherished friends and family, and accepted people for who they are.
Bill is survived by his true love Nancy and their two sons Eric of Westford MA, wife Anne, and children Emily and Daniel, and Scott of Falmouth, his wife Leslie, and their child Felix. In addition, niece Lisa Berman of Chatham, nephew Rob Schneider of New Hampshire and cousin Carol Redhead of California. Bill’s passing will leave a large empty spot in the lives of all who knew him and loved him.
A private memorial service was held on December 9th at St. Christopher's church in Chatham, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 30th from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the Chatham VFW, 150 George Ryder Rd.
