Carl Spencer Martin

Carl Spencer Martin, born January 27, 1946, to the late James Martin and Glendora Johnson in Bakewell, Tennessee, gained his final victory and transitioned into eternal glory on December 7, 2025. He was the eldest of five children.

After attending Booker T. Washington School, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Thereafter, he worked as a laborer for TVA and later served with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department as an undercover narcotics officer. Following his time with the department, he continued to build a strong legacy in the construction industry, working for Professional Cement Finishing, LLC until his passing.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Glendora Johnson; father, James Martin; sister, Annette Williams; son, Keldon Brown; and daughter, Lonique Fleming Spence.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 53 years, Peggy Martin of Chattanooga, TN; daughters Le’Sean (Brandon) Godfrey of Las Vegas, NV, and Alandra Martin of Orlando, FL; and his son, DeCarlos Martin of Johnson City, TN. He is also survived by his sisters, Twanda Hughes of Bakewell, TN, and Kathy Sanders of Soddy-Daisy, TN; and his brother, Tyris Johnson of Bakewell, TN.

He leaves behind a loving legacy that includes a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on December 22, 2025, at noon, under the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Franklin-Strickland Chapel, located at 1724 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN, 37404.

A military honors committal service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, where his cremated remains will be placed with dignity and gratitude for his service.
