

Larry Lee Dartis, a proud veteran of the US Marines Corps, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life.
Larry was born and raised in Winchester, TN to the late Sunary Williams Dartis and Copatric Dartis Sr. on March 31, 1953. He graduated from Franklin County High School.
At the age of 19, Larry, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He highly valued this service and attained the rank of E2. As part of this service, he proudly served his country for six years. Private First Class Dartis was an Anti-Tank Assault man and Small Arms Proof Director. PFC Dartis received the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Larry also enjoyed spending time with his family, playing and watching basketball, playing a friendly game of cards and watching tv.
Among those who preceded him in death include his parents, Sunary Williams Dartis and Copatric Dartis, brothers Michael Dartis and Tommie Dartis, grandson baby Julion Hill, and daughter Shalanda Brewer.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted companion of thirty-nine years, Mary Jones, daughter Angel (Jones) Dartis, stepdaughters Tabitha Banks and Buffie Fugh, stepsons James (Miranda) Jones Jr. and Edward Jones, Shanta (Edwina) Brewer of Winchester, TN, thirteen grandchildren Ari’al Jones, Jaliyah Byrd, Aniqone, Shamar, and Alna Brewer, Byron Banks Jr., JaQuisha Jones of Nashville, TN, James Jones III, Mychal Gurley II, Julius McKamey Jr. of Nashville, TN, Destini Jones, Eviyon Jones, and Jameson Jones. four Great grandchildren Autum Davis, Lania Campbell, Maliya Banks, and Tre’von Jackson Jr., two brothers, Copatric (Casey) Dartis Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana and Earl Vanzant of Winchester, TN, a special friend Roy Stevens and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Larry will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services – Franklin-Strickland Chapel, 1724 Mccallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404. A committal service will occur Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404. A lie - in -state will occur Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1724 Mccallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
