Nenita Segura Chvilicek went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Nenita was dearly loved by her family and friends, and also endearingly known as Honey, Mom, Lola, Neng, Tita Nita and Nitz.
Nenita was born in Iloilo Iloilo, Philippines on July 19, 1952 to Anastacio and Clara Segura. She was the sixth child of their dozen. She graduated from Iloilo City National High School, attended Philippine Women University and the University of San Agustin. She majored in Home Economics.
After her schooling, her life took a surprising turn when she met Michael Chvilicek while he was deployed with the U.S. Navy. From their meeting, life expanded beyond the Philippines. Nenita moved across the Pacific Ocean, started her own family and became a U.S. citizen. She spent 43 years lovingly devoted to Michael and her two children, Debbie and Chris.
Michael’s career in the U.S. Navy took Nenita to unexpected places, including South Carolina, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, and Washington where they decided to spend the remainder of their years together after Michael’s retirement from service.
She made the most of every duty station, working and volunteering, enriching the community with her radiant smile and heart to help. Of all of her jobs, she loved giving care the most. She spent most of her life pouring into her family and the people around her. She also worked as a caregiver for the elderly in her community and often reflected fondly on that time. She had much affection for what many people find difficult to do: providing kind company, utmost service and dignity to those near the end of life. She knew that the smallest gestures of compassion made a difference. She understood that all were made in God’s image and to be valued.
Nenita spent over 30 years nestled in the Olympic Peninsula with her family. She resided in Port Hadlock and enjoyed life in Port Townsend. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She served and engaged in many different roles at the church including cultural engagement of the Filipino community, coordinating Simbang Gabi (a Filipino Christmas tradition), singing in the choir, prayer group and more. She dearly loved the body of Christ and it showed.
At home, her love and care were always on full display for her family and friends. It often showed through gifts, cooking and quality time. When she wasn’t loving the people God placed in her life, she was loving her humble, little home. She spent many hours outside tending to the yard and flowers, in all seasons. She and Michael enjoyed the literal fruit of their labors every year. Apples, pears, figs, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and plums provided an abundance of work to attend to and sweet provisions to delight in.
A year after losing her dearly loved husband in 2024, Nenita decided to join her daughter and family in Tennessee. She was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer upon her arrival. For three months she was a bright light, a fierce fighter and witness to her Savior, Jesus and His work in her life. She touched many in her short time and we know she heard,
“Well done, good and faithful servant,” (Matthew 25:21) as Jesus welcomed her into the garden He prepared for her.
Nenita is preceded in death by her parents, Anastacio and Clara Segura; her sister, Wenonah Segura Soqueño; and her brothers, Abraham Segura, Angel Segura, Elmo Segura and Jose Maria Segura.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Jason) and Chris; granddaughters Erin and Theresa; siblings, Denorah Segura, Elvira Segura, Cecilia Segura, Virginia Segura Intrepido, Anastacio Segura Jr., Theresa Segura Gatusang; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church (1335 Blaine St, Port Townsend, WA 98368) on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10am, with a reception to follow. Anyone who would like to celebrate her life is welcome.
Committal service will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, June 26 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local Society of St. Vincent DePaul (WA) (https://svdpejc.org) or New Hope Pregnancy Care Center (TN) (https://newhopepcc.org).
