She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga where she was a volunteer with CASA. She received her B.A. from the University of Georgia. She was a devoted wife who loved cooking, singing, and her dogs, Piper & Phoebe.
Rachel is survived by her husband, John A. Howard, Jr.; parents, Mark and Tracy Maddox of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; Carol and Michael Gryson of Emerald Isle, North Carolina; two brothers, Jason (April) Maddox of Chattanooga and David Maddox of Atlanta, Georgia;
two sisters, Mabry and Ruby Maddox both of Signal Mountain; grandmother, A. Patricia MacDonald of Spring Lake, Michigan; two nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins; mother-and-father-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. John Howard, Sr. of Cleveland, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Catherine Howard of Cleveland, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011. A celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. George Choyce officiating.
