Mr. Newport (Dick) is survived by his two sons, Josh (Rondi) and Jon, and two grandsons, Quentin and Oliver.
Dick grew up in the Chattanooga area where he attended McCallie Preparatory School and later went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At UT, Dick was in the ROTC, and from there served in the Infantry Division of the United States Army. During his tour in Vietnam, Dick was awarded The Bronze Star Medal as well as The Silver Star for Gallantry in Action.
Dick attended Highland Park Baptist Church and Church of the Highlands. A memorial service will be held November 27, 2019. Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
