Gwenn Ellen Campanella, age 66, went to be with Jesus after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, on Monday, October 27, 2025. She was at home with her family by her side. She was born on March 15, 1959, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the daughter of Richard E. Sharpe and Patricia (Pattee) Bayse. Gwenn was a 1977 graduate of Maple Heights High School.
She worked as an ingredient handler for Stouffer‘s for several years and it was there that she met the love of her life, Ron. They were married on August 22, 1981. After ten years of marriage, Gwenn and Ron were nearing divorce, but their marriage was saved when both Gwenn and Ron professed a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Gwenn lived out her faith as a long-time member of Parkside Church, where she served for over 20 years in the children’s ministry, Kids of the Kingdom with her husband and children. Gwenn had a strong faith that she loved to share with her children and grandchildren, and she fully trusted God throughout her illness. She was often heard saying, “God’s got this”.
Gwenn loved horses and Doberman Pinschers. She could be found mowing the lawn, going to garage sales and listening to her favorite singers, George Strait and Johnny Cash. As much as Gwenn loved being the mom of Brandon, Amanda, and Daniel, she simply adored becoming Mamaw of Ann, Hayden, Asher, and her cherished Heavenly Hunter Hughes. Mamaw loved dancing around with her grandchildren, and spending time on vacation.
She is preceded in death by her cherished grandson Hunter Hughes Campanella. Survivors include her husband of forty-four years, Ron or as she said Ronnie of Auburn Township, Ohio; her parents, Richard Sharpe of Virginia, and Patricia Bayse of West Virginia; her three children, Brandon Campanella of Auburn Township, Ohio, Amanda Campanella of Cleveland, Ohio, and Daniel (Mackenzie) Campanella of Hiram, Ohio; three grandchildren; and five siblings, Shelly, Michael, Samantha, Terry, and John.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Parkside Church, 7100 Pettibone Road, Chagrin Falls, 44023, with Pastor, Mickey Aquillino officiating. Calling hours will follow the service until 5:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkside Church.
