     Being just 1 year & 8 months
younger, I have been lucky, for her care & expressions of love, right from childhood to Sept 10, 2021....!
Our mischief episodes had been countless, with lots of ponds in the courtyard & proximity to The Lake Vembanad....! How can l forget her multiple trials, to save me from Maternal corporal punishments, by submitting herself as the culprit all through the childhood.
I used to notedown funny events in my diary & wait for her weekend calls & make her laugh so loudly. The typical Anniechachy Laughter is still echoing.... 
Anniechachy 's Soul, now more free to reach everyone, at anytime, is getting ready to continue The Noble Mission to treat others joyfully.....

Annie, I wrote about music and laughter. Your innate warmth put people at ease, that needed no effort from you. You had a great sense of humour, ready with a laugh, ready for a laugh.
Just you wait, Annie Beatrice, when we meet next we will have a great time again. 

We are saddened to hear of Dr Annie Mathew’s death. This is a difficult loss. I was very closed to Annie having worked together for so many years. She was a large of our life at Norton hospital and a partner in anesthesia ( Anesthesia asso. of Louisville) she was always there for me when we were doing the most difficult cases in the OR. Annie had taught me a lot about the most recent trends in Anesthesia even I was more senior to her. This I will always cherished & will never forget. She was the most caring loving talented & skilled anesthesiologist. Annie’s beautiful contagious captivating smiles made everyone comfortable to the medical team at Norton. She was loved by everybody- her patients & the medical community in Louisville ky. Our deepest sympathy for your loss our hearts goes out to the family. May she rest now in peace with God. I worked with Annie many years in Anesthesia at Norton Hospital. She was so kind to everyone, and was a friend and mentor to many there and a skilled anesthesiologist. She had a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile. I enjoyed our meals  we shared at Mojitos and Christmas Eve at her home  with the Kartha's. Annie was very dear to me, I loved her, and miss her. Anu, thank you for remembering Annie's old friends. Your message came within hours.
Anu, John, Janay, Annie talked about you with affection and pride. When Anu joined the practice she was the proud mother first and then a colleague. John, she spoke highly of your work with a Chicago school to get it back on its feet. Janay, she said you were a welcome addition to her family, a steadying influence. The grandchildren were her fun and joy. I guess she was your mother and friend rolled into one.
Annie was easily the most popular person in our class of 185 students. Her friends from student days cannot separate her from her singing and from her laughter. Her singing was heavenly, her laughter was like the tinkling of glass bangles. I met her on our first day in the medical college as my dissection partner. I first heard her singing also in the dissection hall.
Annie left India in 1974. The next time we met in 1989 when I visited her in Louisville. On day 1 my request for a song brought no joy. The next afternoon we went for a drive. She parked the car in a clearing on the riverside, waited a minute,in a low voice she started to sing .She gradually relaxed and found her rhythm. She went through 4 or 5 of our old-time favourites. She sat quiet for a few moments. Magic, I wouldn't break the spell. Then she said she was singing for the first time after coming to the USA 15 years back. While returning she talked of the tight schedule of the early years. In all that music had become a distant memory. I realised those moments by the riverside were her private moments, I was privileged to be there. Out of practice, voice unsteady, it didn't matter. Annie was singing. Last Christmas she sent a voice recording of the "Silent Night", again not perfect, so what it was Annie. So long Annie our next meeting you start humming I'll give the lyrics.


We are so heartbroken to learn of Annie Aunty's passing. She was a unique light in our community, with her radiant smile and her warm, always comforting presence. I (Tania) ran into Annie Aunty a few years ago at Heine Brothers. She was reading a novel, I was trying to write one. We talked for a while, and I was struck by how young in spirit she still was, how curious and optimistic. Her light lives on her children and grandchildren, of whom she spoke with love and pride. We send our deepest condolences to Anu and John, and to the entire family.

Annie aunty was truly a gem. Her laugh is still echoing in my ears. I still can’t come in terms with her passing. I vividly remember how excited I was when she used to visit Kerala.
I would not board the school bus back home cause my grandmother and parents would pick me up from school and we’d go meet them. The entire time in my school I’d be dreaming about playing hide and seek with Annie aunty :”) She used to call me Kanthari. 
She was so affectionate and always lively.
It is sad that I couldn’t meet her in the recent past. 

I will truly miss you Annie aunty.

Annie was so embracing of everyone, her contagious smile and amazing compassion for her patients was inspiring.  I loved talking with her and hearing her stories. She will be so missed. Love and prayers the family 

Annie Aunty had a special way of making us feel loved. She was more than a sister to my mother and more than an aunt to me. Her visits to India were always the time of family re-unions , fun and gifts , some of the best memories of my childhood. Her home was the first one to invite me and Divya during the initial challenging years post our marriage, and made us feel like family. There was never a Christmas or birthday passing by without a wish from her and she continued the same tradition with every new member in our family. I will always admire her for the strong, independent and loving soul she was all through her life and beyond.

Dear John and Mary and all of Annie’s family,
    My heart goes out to you - Annie was a uniquely beautiful person inside and out.  I first met Annie way back in the 80s when John and Amy were in the same class.  We volunteered for various PTA projects/ committees, and our children played on the same soccer team, remaining friends throughout high school.  
    Then later we worked in the same operating room in downtown Louisville.  She was a skilled and caring physician- always my trusted first choice to administer anesthesia to me and my family on several occasions.
     I always liked and admired her saris, and after a particularly hard time in my life, she actually measured me, and had a beautiful custom sari made for me on one of her trips back to India.  That is the kind of person Annie was - such a sweet, humble, happy, loving person.  I’m so sad she is no longer on this earth.  You have my sincere condolences.

It was my pleasure and privilege to work with Dr. Annie Mathews. She was an exceptional professional as an anesthesiologist and a wonderful human being. I felt safe with her at the head of the bed when I was operating. She was kind and could calm an anxious patient            ( even an anxious doctor) even before administering medication. We spoke often of the challenges and joy of family and raising children.  She will be remembered as a very special person in my career as a surgeon and personally as a friend. What can I say, Annie was such a part of my life, she was a rock, looking after all of us with sage advice and kindness. She loved to laugh at herself, at our antics and lighten our load and support us in the tough anesthesia business. For a little person, she would not back down from a fight to make sure patient care was the best that could be. She was very spiritual, so she would say, “God’s Will be done”, but I will miss her. My prayers with her daughter,  Mary and her son and grandkids.

I worked with Dr Annie for many years at Norton Pavilion.  She was a wonderful doctor and person,  always compassionate in her care. My thoughts and prayers are with Dr Mary and all the family.

Annie &I are products of the same medical school from years past. My fondest memory is of her visit to our home in Des Moines three years ago with another classmate of ours. A delightful visit. The other memory is of Annie and I singing a duet together at a college function, again long ago. Bless her soul.  A good friend,  will always be missed.

I remember her  annual visits from the US was something as kids we looked forward to a lot. In those times we hardly saw our mum (her sister) as she used to be with aunty all the time. I remember we used to send a list of stuff to her to bring from US..  Nike shoes, Polo t-shorts .. list goes on.. and we felt like Royals going to school wearing all of them. Thanks for all the help and in some ways you helped us to dream big. 
Your selfless helping mentality .. your infectious laugh .. all will be truly missed. You probably said good bye exactly the way you wanted .. not suffering much as far as I know.. Rest in Peace aunty  bye for now 

Annie was my  best friend during our medical school days. I miss her cute smile and laughter always.She used to cheer me up whenever l was sad. Annie, rest in peace in the heavenly home. We will meet there one day 

Annie is always in our hearts. Annie Beatrice as she was known, was my classmate in Trivandrum medical college from 1966, those were the happiest days,we always maintained that contact and friendship all through these years. I have known Annie for over thirty years. First as my teacher then a colleague and last a dear friend. Our kids grew up together in Chicago and later in Louisville. She was the most patient teacher as an anesthesiologist mentor. As a friend, I will always remember her hearty laughter and kind heart. I will miss her so much .
