Loving Father to daughters Susan Jung, Sharon husband Tony Fong, sons Albert and wife Alexandra, Jeffrey and wife Vanna Ly. Doting Devoted Grandfather adored by Grandchildren Andrew wife Lilan, Anthony, Alexander Jung, Jessica and Remy Fong.
On December 16, 2020 we lost our beloved patriarch, friend and father like to many Arthur Lai Jung at the age of 87. Arthur and Keen were married for 62 years, loved for 65 years. In loving memory Arthur is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and his sister Helen Jung Lee.
Arthur was born on September 12, 1933 in Canton China to Sing Jung and Seen Foong Wong. At the age of 17 he immigrated to the U.S to be with his father in Chicago (Chinatown). He met his wife while attending Wells High School learning English, dating and married in September 1958. He worked as a Chef at Don the Bech Comer then later at the Palmer House Trader Vic as the Specialty American Grill Chef until he retired to be a full time Grandfather.
Arthur followed in his father’s passion serving on the board for the family name Jung Chinese Hoy On Association as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President in Chicago Chinatown community.
Raising his family he worked second shift to be home walking to take his children to school and making lunch so that his kids had a hearty lunch.
At the age of 10-11 Arthur was in the Boys Scout in China and the skills he learned later in life he was a Mr Handyman, Mr Fixit. He self taught himself to fix basic electrical, plumbing and all around handyman. There was nothing that he didn’t try to fix. He tinkered in his self made workshop fixing and making items and things he would find broken and put back together like tables, lamps and bicycles.
He had a” Green Thumb” planting and gardening indoors and outdoors. His proudest is his Aloe Plant he received a seedling that he maintained grew and bloomed into several plants to share with loved ones and friends.
He loved to cook his famous short rib stew, lemon sauce for pan fry fish and chicken, holiday dinner Turkey and Prime Rib. We would gather every Sunday for family dinner which he looked forward to and excited to having everyone together. Family was important and huge for him. We never ventured far so that we could be near to spend time and have Sunday Family dinners.
