Barbara “Barb” Dooley, passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday, July 21st, 2024. Originally from Syracuse, NY, Barb moved to Chicago, where she became one of the inaugural residents of Harbor House in 1967. The decision to move to Harbor House was inspired by a bike ride she took with her dear friend Joyce Heidemann. During the ride, they spotted the almost completed building at Lakeshore & Belmont, leading them to become one of its first residents.
Barb had a distinguished career in the food service industry and retired as Director of Food Service for the Oak Park River Forest High School. After retirement Barb and Joyce split their time between Florida and Chicago for many years. Barb loved being a ‘Saint’ as an active member of “The Saints,” a group of volunteers for the Performing Arts in Chicago she enjoyed many productions in the Chicago area. She had a passion for reading, exercise, travel, and engaging in friendly conversations with everyone she met.
Barb is survived by her loving long time best friend Joyce Heidemann, by her sister Mary (Jackie) Williams and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Jean O'Connor and Ann Flynn.
