June 9, 1947 – September 19, 2025
Corina Barrios, lovingly known as Mom to seven, Wita to eleven, and Kika to two, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 78 in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Born on June 9, 1947, Corina dedicated her life to her family and to hard work. For many years she proudly worked as a landlord, owning property in both Lincoln Square and on the South Side of Chicago. She took great pride in her work and in being able to provide for her family through her perseverance and determination.
After retiring, Corina devoted her time to her gardens, where her love for flowers bloomed as brightly as her spirit. She was known for collecting the little treasures that brought her joy—plates for her kitchen walls, small cows for her living room displays, and owls of every kind.
Above all, Corina cherished time with her family. She proudly raised her children—Sandy, Maritza, Joe, Luis, Elmer, Myrna, and Brenda—and found immense joy as Wita to Jessica, Kristie, Rudy, Ashni, Tony, Lexie, Abby, Marcus, Nate, Sarah, and Jonathan, and as Kika to Victoria and Aria. Her home was always filled with traditions passed down from her mother and carried forward through generations—from making tamales at Christmas, to preparing her famous albondiga (meatball) soup, to hosting Thanksgiving feasts. She even made sure to keep cultural traditions alive, such as chasing her children and grandchildren with a tree branch for Sábado de Gloria (Holy Saturday), a memory her family will never forget.
A die-hard Cubs fan, Corina never missed a game. She loved shopping trips to Marshall Field’s and Lord & Taylor, but she also wasn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves at Home Depot or Menards. Her generosity was unmatched—every holiday, her Christmas tree overflowed with gifts piled so high they covered the floor.
Corina’s joy was in life’s simple pleasures: a warm cup of coffee with pound cake, or a strawberry milkshake shared with loved ones. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her enduring traditions, and her unwavering love.
She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched.
A memorial visitation for Corina will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634. A private mass in her honor will take place the following day, Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by her internment.
