Born in Evergreen Park, IL, on September 30, 1980, David was a dedicated public servant and a deeply devoted father, son, brother, and friend. He pursued a life rooted in service, integrity, and family.
A proud graduate of the University of Illinois Police Training Institute in December 2008, David continued his education at Calumet College of St. Joseph, earning a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Management in 2012. He later achieved his Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Governors State University in 2014. He served as a police officer with the Burbank Police Department, where he was respected for his commitment to public safety and his compassionate approach to the community he served.
Beyond his career, David had many passions. He loved restoring classic cars and attending car shows, had a gifted hand for remodeling and carpentry, and found joy in the kitchen through cooking. But more than anything, David cherished time with his children. Coaching their sports teams and being a constant presence in their lives was his greatest joy and most important role.
David is lovingly remembered by his children: Tyler, Bridget, Maura, and Brendan Colander; his mother, Joyce Colander (and the late Harold Colander); and his siblings: Michael (Carissa), Michele, Brian (Aimee), Mark (Maribeth), and Timothy Colander. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
