Donald dedicated his life to Queen of Angels school as a student from 1962 to 1971, and as a teacher for 33 years. He was a very active member of the Queen of Angels community: coaching volleyball, involvement with the faith committee, working with student council, the athletic board, volunteering, and always making his students and colleagues laugh.
Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Shirley Elkin, his sister, Susan Myers, and his infant great-nephew Jonny Smith.
Survived and beloved by his sisters Lynn (Pat) Brankey and Diane (Scott) Benser; his brother-in-law Tim Myers; his nieces and nephews Laura, Joe (Ana), Patrick (Alexis), Tessie, Lizzy (Jon), Kathy (Tyler), Timmy, and Brian; great-nieces Delilah and Piper; many cousins, godchildren, and countless friends.
Donald grew up in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago and retired to Wisconsin in June of 2023. Donald will be remembered for giving everyone goofy nicknames, for being a marvelous song writer, and for his love of dogs and Diet Pepsi (with a lot of ice). Donald brought laughter and light wherever he went. He will be missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Donald that will be held at Queen of Angels on May 10th, 2024 at 9:30am with mass to follow at 10:30am.
