Edward A. Jarger, 85, of Chicago, died June 3, 2020. Ed was born in Chicago to John and Anna (Tropfenbaum) Jarger on November 16, 1934. While attending Lakeview High School he met and soon after married Marilyn (Trescher). Together they raised three children, Edward, Kathryn and Susan. Ed worked many years for the Chicago Board of Education as a carpenter. He was active in Local #181 of the Chicago Region Carpenter’s Union for over 65 years. His love and passion for woodworking was shared with many. He built an oak cradle that rocked to sleep over the years, all of his grandchildren and many of his great-grandchildren . The gift of tools at Christmas was his way of passing his interest and talent on to all of us. He was also very active over the years at West Ridge United Methodist Church. Ed loved his family and his many friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, John and his mother Anna, his wife Marilyn, as well as his brothers John and Frank. He is survived by his three children, Edward (Mary Wenholz) Jarger, Kathryn (the late Gary Smith) Jarger, and Susan (Dan) Schwarz. He was a loving, supporting grandfather to Michael, Matthew, Kathleen, Sarah, Cindy, Philip and Melanie, as well as a step-grandfather to Nick and Gary. And most joyfully, a great-grandfather to Reese, Brennan, Parker, Noelle, Grayson and Ian, as well as step-great-grandfather to Cassidy. Ed is also survived by his companion Marcy Barahona.
If you said to him,” Have a good day!” He always responded with,” Every day’s a good day!” His passion for life and family lives on today in all of us.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic restrictions all services are private. There will be a Memorial Service announced at a later date to be able to celebrate Ed's life.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Illinois Chapter are appreciated: https://www.cancer.org/about-us/local/illinois.html.
