Elizabeth Mary Wirkus

Elizabeth “Ela, Liz” Mary Wirkus ,age 47, of Romeoville, Illinois (born in Chicago, Illinois) passed away on Monday June 26, 2023. Services will be held at St. Hyacinth Basilica (3636 Wolfram St., Chicago) on Saturday July, 1 2023 with viewing starting at 9:30 am followed by a 10 am mass.

Liz, the most loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister, and aunt is survived by her son Damien Wilkins (Nicole Wilkins); daughter Bridget Wirkus; parents Bruno and Mary Delimat; sister Diane Biernat (Adam Biernat); as well as many nieces, nephews, and childhood friends of Damien and Bridget. Preceded in death were Elizabeth’s brother Adam Delimat; her grandmother's Zofia Mazur and Stefania Delimat; family pets Buddy and Peachy; and her husband, Robert Wirkus.

On April 9, 2001 Liz married Robert Wirkus and they raised two amazing children together. As a family they enjoyed shopping together and having movie nights in. As her children were growing up, Liz’s house was the favorite hang-out spot as she was always making sure their friends were cared for when they were over. In 2017, tragedy struck as Bob was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, where Liz stood strongly by his side through his treatment and remained a solid base for their children during this time. In recent years, the beach and Disney were some of Liz’s favorite places to be and she and her partner Richard Rose were able to make many visits.

Many will remember her as the life of the party, but also someone who was an incredible listener and always willing to support others when needed. She will truly be missed by the numerous lives she has had an impact on.
