Born in a small settlement near the town of Kopyczynce, Poland, Frank was the oldest of 3 children. During the early months of World War II, he and his family were exiled from their family farm in Czarnolozy to a forced labor camp in Siberia. In 1942, the family was evacuated to Persia where they lived for 2 years before being separated; the men were sent to Palestine and the women to a refugee camp in India. The family reunited in 1947 at a displaced persons camp in Fairford, England. While in England, Frank studied technical drawing, worked in the construction industry, and played semi-professional soccer. In 1954, he immigrated to Chicago where he eventually met and married Karoline, his loving wife of 56 years.
Hard-working, extremely handy, and a dedicated family man, Frank had a big heart and was always ready to help. He generously gave of his time and talents and, over the years, held a number of leadership roles in scouting and the Knights of Dąbrowski, a Polish fraternal organization. Frank’s faith was deeply important to him as well serving as an usher at St. Priscilla Church for many years. In retirement, Frank particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer and giving referees a hard time.
Frank will be missed deeply by family, friends, and neighbors who for many years have enjoyed detailed accounts of his extraordinary life.
