

George Luis Gutierrez, 59, of Chicago passed away in his home on May 28, 2021. Beloved husband for over 37 years of Luz nee Rubio. George is survived by his daughter Jacqueline (Joel) Dennison; son David Gutierrez; grandchildren Oliver George, Violet, and Owen Dennison; siblings Angie Rodriguez, Adolfo (Clarivel) Gutierrez, Luis (Lourdes) Gutierrez, Joseph Gutierrez, and Robert (Ericka) Gutierrez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. He was preceeded in death by his parents Luis and Josefina (nee Benavides) Gutierrez. George was an avid and experienced athlete, having run two Chicago Marathons and participated in an AIDS Ride Minnesota and a Ride Across Iowa. He was also a skilled guitarist who could casually play most any tune with joy. Philosophy captivated his interest all his life. He was also a life-long Democrat and strong supporter of labor unions. As part of his long teaching career, George was also a life-long learner of anything that would broaden his knowledge of the world around him, and as his Grandson Oliver knows, Frogs are awesome.
