George Waldo Young was born November 13, 1942 in Evanston, Ill to Dr. Roy Mercer Young and Berniece Carson Young. He was the youngest of four children, Roy Jr., Jimmy and Joanie. After their parents deaths very early in his life George (and sister Joanie) moved to Chicago where they were was raised by their uncle and aunt, Dr. Waldo Emerson Alexander and Marguerite Young Alexander, one of the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Waldo and Marguerite provided a warm, loving and fun home to grow up in. George was an acolyte in the Episcopal church, worked for the Chicago Defender and attended Francis Parker private school. He spent summers with extended family in Idlewild, Michigan having fun and being mischievous.
After high school George served in the United States Navy and upon an honorable discharge returned home to Chicago where he lived until his passing on May 14, 2015. Georgie, as he was lovingly referred to by all his family members will always be remembered as loads of fun, humorous, handsome and such a sweetheart. When concluding a visit or weekly phone call he'd always say "Love You Madly" as we would to him. George was blessed with a wonderful small knit community of dear friends who he lived with and spent time with. He enjoyed cooking, good TV, going out for coffee and to the movies and daily walks to go shopping. He lived by the saying "One day at a time". George is survived by his two nieces, great grand nephews and niece and brother-in-law.
We love him madly, will miss him dearly and will all live in the light of his halo until we meet again . .
